Configuring FERT's & using Thresholds on Paper Machines

$

Hello Experts,

We've been working in the Paper industry for a couple of years now & use the IS-Mill DIMP functionality ONLY to the extent of being able to configure our Orders in ECC & in allowing combined Orders in ECC. We, as most of the industry does, use an external trim tool that optimizes the making of Sales Orders using a Trim Sheet. We use enhancements in the APO system to combine orders at the planned order level. Below are a couple of topics that seem peculiar to me in this environment & was wanting to understand how others in the industry handle these constraints -

  • Configuring FERT BOM's: Given that we are majority MTO & that are a uncontrollable production over-runs, it would have made sense to have some functionality that would enable us to use up the configured (KMAT) products (the over-runs that otherwise lie on the floor as unused inventory). We know, only the KMAT BOM's can be configured, while the FERT's cannot.
  • Production Threshold: Once a Paper Machine starts production, it is sub-optimal to produce below a certain threshold quantity. Based on the run & the machine lets take for ex: 1500sft of paper is the minimum that will have to be made. This is a hard constraint. I did not however see any provision in APO to use these constraints during the Planned Order creation.

It would be interesting to hear comments from experts in this area.

Cheers

Dear Seniors,

I am a SAP Consultant with experience in PP. I have now a request for a customer that uses SAP MILL.

I was trying to find on the internet some resources about SAP MILL and I did not find much.

Do you know where I can find documentation about SAP MILL or some SAP standard courses about this ?

Many thanks in advance for your great support,

CIF error when transferring batch class 023 to APO

Hello,

We are testing the integration of classified ECC batches into APO and are encountering a CIF SYSFAIL error when transferring batch class 023 to APO.

SYSFAIL occuring in Function Modules /SAPAPO/CIF_CHR30_INB and SAPAPO/CIF_CLA30_INB. Status Text of CIF error only indicates "::000"

CIF SYSFAIL.PNG

We have followed the links for integration of Class/Characteristics and integration of Batches and have done the steps outlined below.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm70/helpdata/en/b3/12813b680c250fe10000000a114084/content.htm?frameset=/en/b3/12813b680c250fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm

Background

ECC 6.0 DIMP/ SCM 7.0

Steps taken

1) We have created a batch class 023 and variant class 300 with the same exact technical name (ie Z_ROLL)

2) Within each class, we have designated specific characteristics to be APO relevant via Organizational Area assignment (ie Org Area)

3) Within SCM config, we have configured Organizational area for class type 230 (ie Cross-Application Components Classification System Classes Maintain Object Types and Class Types) , assigning it to table /SAPAPO/VERSKEY

*Note - Configuration scheme in APO is CDP

4) Created and generated specific CIF integration model for Class/Characteristic object including the Org Area "A" filter and class types 300 and 023

5) Upon Activating CIF integration model, class 300 is succesfully transferred to APO (we see the APO class "Z_ROLL" in the system under class type 300 and APO Class type 400)...HOWEVER we do not see batcg class type 230 in APO.

6) Looking at SMQ2 (inbound APO queues), we see the CIF SYFAIL mentioned above

We are looking for any thoughts on potential missing configuration steps/other causes of this  specific SYSFAIL. Message searches on this SYSFAIL did not yield anything specific. We are beginning debugging of the CIF queue in parallel.

Thank you

Hello folks,

In DIMP solution, I am having trouble creating process batch as the process batch pushbottons does not appear in CO11N screen.

Can you provide your experience on settings this up? Wondering if there is an SAP note to fix this?

Combine Production Order Fixed Qty Un-tick in component overview

Hi,

we have scenario where we are creating combine production order by using mill_oc, the functionality is working fine, but we have an issue in component issue because we are using back-flushing,

moreover, as we know that in combine production order the "fixed Qty" tick in derived automatically in component overview even-though the "fixed Qty" un-tick in bill of material (BOM). so our client is required that instead of goes into the component overview and UN-tick the "fixed Qty" then back-flushing is working @ the time of confirmation and system re-determine the "Goods Movement" quantity in the case partial confirmation.

so we are requesting , please suggest the suggestion where user will avoid this activity to un-tick the component overview manually  and system will take of quantity "Fixed Qty" Un-tick.

please put the lights and provide solution is highly appreciated

Can Bacteria help in Mining?

Hello Friends,

Bactaria Mining cartoon.jpg

When we think about Mining we visualise heavy loaders or big trucks or heavy equipments.but do you know besides this big-big machines some small-small microorganisms also helps in mining just like earthworms for farmer and like squirrels in Ramayana helps Lord Rama to build the bridge.

One of the biggest mining company Vale is researching on copper eating bacteria to recover copper from tailings. In Mining industry ores are processed to separate metals from waste. however  after some extent when it is not either not possible or not feasible to further recover metal so they are treated as tailings and disposed to tailing dams.

Vale along with BNDES and university of SaoPaulo is researching for copper eating bactaria. These bactaria will be blended to the tailings which will eat copper from these waste and that copper can be recovered from bacteria, reprocess it and sold to market.According to Vale its Sessego mine tailing dam contains 90 million tons of 0.07% of copper grade detritus which due to its low grade cannot be recovered. so if this project get success all of this copper can be recovered which would value approx US$ 1.4 billions.this method is more popular as Bioleaching.

FE_DA_130312_ecoli620x413.jpg

One another concern why mining companies is researching on this is that Bioleaching is more cleaner than other traditional method of recovering metals which require use of hazardous chemicals which may affect environment.

Hello Experts,

Can some one please share the FM / BAPI that can be used for IS Mill related transaction codes such as MILL_CUT, MILL_OC etc. Also it would help a great deal if similar such information is shared also for confirmation of combined orders.

Thanks in advance

MTS With Configurable Materials in DIMP

$

Hello  DIMP Experts,

I am trying to build scenario of producing MTS material with configuration in production order itself. Latest documentation refers - It is possible to do configuration in production order without using APO. However I am struggling to make it work in ECC.

Has anyone experience in building such scenario?

I tried using KMAT Material but production order asks sales order reference for KMAT always. Do we need to create variant material of config and overwrite its characterize values in production order to get MTS with config materials?

Eventually there is no real documentation available on SAP help to build this scenario?

Please let me know - What are master data / config requirement for MTS for configurable materials? Is APO absolutely must or it can work without APO.

Make-for-me Production Model

$

Hello Friends,

I found one good article by SAP Make for Me future which discuss on an emerging production model called make-for-me.It discuss on different emerging technologies which can make this model a reality. it also discuss on what changes it brings in existing manufacturing systems.I have tried to summarize this document. for reading full document visit following links

  1. Make for Me future
  2. Can Customisation be profitable

Explaining Make to Me Production Model

Currently there are two main production strategies being applied in manufacturing i.e Make to stock and Make to Order. In both this strategy companies receives only necessary inputs from customers like size quality etc. but the design of that product is made by the company itself. But what happens if company provides customer control to design their own products? i.e. make your own product. This can be now possible as technologies like 3D printing and CNC machines are becoming affordable and collaboration technologies are getting wide spread.for

for e.g.

  • Volkswagen who provided their customers to design their carmaker's Polo version by controling 3D printers.
  • Cococola has created its freestyle retail fountain where buyers get ability to create their own flavours
  • Ford Motors has created a modular enginges which can be created in different variations like from 4.8 litres to 6.8 litres

What are those emerging technologies which supports this model

  • 3D Printing which will be affordable and it will also possible to build up layers of materials like ceramics, steel, bronze etc besides plastics.
  • Computer numerical control (CNC) machines: As cost of computing powers gets decrease it become affordable to replace man operated machines like mills, lathes routers etc.
  • Laser-powered machines:
  • 3D scanners
  • Single-ply cutting machines
  • Collaborative technologies (as per my view)

What changes will bring to traditional manufacturing facilities and supply chains?

  • Retooling production lines and back-end systems to increase agility: Tools can be swapped out easily to manufacture different variations of products based on need rather than guessing on demands.
  • Giving Customers tools to customise: Providing ability to customers to design their own products
  • Change in Information Technologies: According to Peter Spielvogel companies will require an ability to track the records of individual customers over different channels which will require big data and real time analytics.
  • Customer Co Innovation.

SAP has inquired some of the Manufacturing experts about whether this model can be viable in light of existing mass production. According to them

Mass production is cost efficient but it will require sacrificing of some of their needs on the part of customer in exchange of cost and efficiencies. Also changing sociological mindset will effect the buying pattern of customers who will focus more on quality and customisation of product rather than qunatity.

So what are your views on how it will affect Mill Products and Mining industry?

Hope it would be helpful.

Regards,

Pratik

Scheduling Margin Key is lost when using MILL_OC

I’m using transaction MILL_OC to convert a bunch of planned orders into a single Mill Products Production Order.

The Scheduling Margin Key is missing from the Production Order.   If I create a Production Order using CO02 the Scheduling Margin Key copies to the Production Order.

Any idea why the Scheduling Margin Key does not copy into the combined Production Order when using MILL_OC?  Thank you very much!

Trimming in APO

$

Hello,

I am working in a paper manufacturing company and in the production process we have Reels and eventually cut into rolls. Multiple orders with the same dimension will be trimmed into 1 single Reel. The positions decide on which orders should be placed accordingly to get maximum output (less loss). We use external trimming solution to merge orders and get them back to APO to convert to Production order. My question is - Do we have trimming capability in SAP APO? or in ECC is-Mill scenarios?

Any info in this line would also be helpful.

Thanks,

Uthaman
