GATP & PPDS for capability to promise in Steel Industry

$
0
0

Dear all, the way steel industry products are bought, manufactured and sold it is clear that to map them into SAP , one would need Variant Configuration with immense amounts of Macro authoring for rules. The trouble is in promising the date of delivery, or rather honoring it once you have promised. This can only be done by utilizing a combination of GATP and PPDS. Basically using CTP.

My request to Gurus here is, if anyone has been in similar circumstances, can she / he guide me with some information, material ...or just continuing this discussion. We are about to enter a large scale SAP implementation with above scenario as a focus area.

CIF error when transferring batch class 023 to APO

Hello,

We are testing the integration of classified ECC batches into APO and are encountering a CIF SYSFAIL error when transferring batch class 023 to APO.

SYSFAIL occuring in Function Modules /SAPAPO/CIF_CHR30_INB and SAPAPO/CIF_CLA30_INB. Status Text of CIF error only indicates "::000"

CIF SYSFAIL.PNG

We have followed the links for integration of Class/Characteristics and integration of Batches and have done the steps outlined below.

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_scm70/helpdata/en/b3/12813b680c250fe10000000a114084/content.htm?frameset=/en/b3/12813b680c250fe10000000a114084/frameset.htm

Background

ECC 6.0 DIMP/ SCM 7.0

Steps taken

1) We have created a batch class 023 and variant class 300 with the same exact technical name (ie Z_ROLL)

2) Within each class, we have designated specific characteristics to be APO relevant via Organizational Area assignment (ie Org Area)

3) Within SCM config, we have configured Organizational area for class type 230 (ie Cross-Application Components Classification System Classes Maintain Object Types and Class Types) , assigning it to table /SAPAPO/VERSKEY

*Note - Configuration scheme in APO is CDP

4) Created and generated specific CIF integration model for Class/Characteristic object including the Org Area "A" filter and class types 300 and 023

5) Upon Activating CIF integration model, class 300 is succesfully transferred to APO (we see the APO class "Z_ROLL" in the system under class type 300 and APO Class type 400)...HOWEVER we do not see batcg class type 230 in APO.

6) Looking at SMQ2 (inbound APO queues), we see the CIF SYFAIL mentioned above

We are looking for any thoughts on potential missing configuration steps/other causes of this  specific SYSFAIL. Message searches on this SYSFAIL did not yield anything specific. We are beginning debugging of the CIF queue in parallel.

SAP MILL PRODUCT

We are looking for implementing SAP Mill product for cable industry.

Basically we are trying to understand the benefits of putting this solution.

Here are our requirements

Characteristics based planning (Planning to use PPDS )

Empty reel calculation (Do we need to use variant configuration for this)

Wants to see stock based on characteristics (I hope we can see stock based on batch characteristics)

Group and process order using characteristics values (Can we use batch characteristics for grouping order. Or should we use material characteristics)

Ability to schedule multiple parent orders when child component is on a single reel. Here the component material is in a single reel. One component reel can be fed only to one production line at a time. So if we have different orders that needs the same component reel, is it possible for scheduling the parent orders one after other automatically. Will SAP IS Mill order combination be able to help us in addressing this scenario. We discussed with APO team and they told that they cannot schedule orders automatically by looking at the component reels.

Combining production order

Hi ,

I am implementing the IS mills solution.

During the combination of the individual orders using the transaction MILL_OC the system is using the reference order to scheduled , seems the system is not reading the execution time of the all orders related in the group order.

Example.

Individual order.      Execution Time

Prod.Ord.1                 1,5 hrs.

Prod.Ord.2                  2,0 hrs

If I used the Prod.Ord1 as a reference the system show in the fields scheduled start time and finish time = 1,5 . As a total  execution time of the group order

If I use the Prod.Ord2 as a reference the system show in the field schedule start time and finish time = 2,hrs. As a total execution time of the group order

Does anyone know why the system just take into account the reference order instead to read all the order that have been combined? In a logical sense the total time of the group order for this exampel would be 2 hrs does not matter which individual order is used as a reference to create the combined order.

Is there any way to change this behaivor?

Any information I really appreciate.

Regards,

The first fully integrated Enterprise Financial Modelling product for the Mining Industries

Original article: http://www.rpmglobal.com/news-and-media/the-first-fully-integrated-enterprise-financial-modelling-product-specifically-targeted-at-the-mining-industry

             ###

RungePincockMinarco (RPM) has today launched the first fully integrated EFM application specifically built for the mining industry, XERAS for Enterprise ™.

         BRISBANE, Australia (May 30, 2013)

XERAS for Enterprise represents the next generation of RPM’s industry leading budgeting and financial modelling software product XERAS ™, which is used by major mining companies all over the world.

Launched with the support of global ERP powerhouse SAP AG (SAP), XERAS for Enterprise seamlessly integrates SAP’s Financial and Maintenance Management modules with the financial modelling capabilities of XERAS. This integration allows for unprecedented levels of financial visibility and cost control, from individual mine sites through to corporate management reporting systems.

Speaking at the product’s launch in Brisbane, Australia, RPM’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Mathews said, “The focus of the industry has clearly shifted to driving productivity improvements. Across our global client base we are seeing a growing demand from Boards and senior management for increased visibility, control and predictability of capital and operating cost structures. The ability to explain the difference between actual and planned financial results and to predict the financial implications of changes in the mining environment is of critical importance to our customers.”

Mr. Mathews went on to say, “We’ve listened to what our customers have been telling us and specifically asking for. They wanted us to take the visibility they get at an operational level from our market leading XERAS product and extend it across the Enterprise and we have done that with SAP.”

“Our relationship with SAP makes perfect sense given our almost identical customer base in the industry. This product has been a long time in the making and we are thrilled to bring it to market now. Never before has a complex mining company had the ability to see the immediate financial impacts of a change in an operational mine plan reflected in real time in a corporate budgeting and reforecasting systems.”

XERAS for Enterprise represents the first of RPM’s technology products to take the strategic step forward into the enterprise environment. XERAS for Enterprise follows closely behind the successful launch of RPM’s enterprise enabled XERAS 8.0 last week.

Commenting on this milestone, Board member and company founder, Dr. Ian Runge said, “The conversion of physical attributes of a mine plan into a cost by consumable category was the basis for the original development of XERAS over 20 years ago. To see this natural extension in which mining executives now have full financial visibility from the mine site all the way through to the corporate ERP is very satisfying to say the least.”

With a centralised platform for conducting analysis and generating different scenarios using auditable and validated information, XERAS for Enterprise bridges the gap between the mine and the boardroom. It exposes the strengths and weaknesses of the mine plan and provides critical information which management can use to act upon.

XERAS for Enterprise provides many new significant business benefits which Darren Rostron, RPM’s XERAS Product Manager explains.

“XERAS for Enterprise gives our customers the ability to perform in depth plan vs. actuals analysis. It not only provides variance reporting but also lets you get under the covers so you can truly understand the reasons and underlying logic behind the causes.

“It allows you to reforecast dynamically on the go. When unexpected events occur, such as equipment failure, weather events, or a major drop in commodity prices XERAS for Enterprise quickly helps you understand the financial impact on the business and make informed decisions.

“XERAS for Enterprise standardises financial costing models, enabling fast consolidation and central control of underlying assumptions. The days of manually rolling up financial models into giant spreadsheets are over. Its rapid consolidation of multiple budgets allows operational and financial managers to understand their future financial position across their entire global operations.

“The improved cost visibility provided by XERAS for Enterprise means that senior management are able to drill down through all the layers of the financial plan, right through to the underlying base assumptions at a particular site if they want.

“It makes the crucial job of financial modelling, budgeting and reforecasting much simpler. With XERAS for Enterprise, it’s easier for financial managers to make decisions with confidence.

“Having a single source of truth for financial planning is paramount in today’s mining environment. We endeavor to provide better access to information for technical and operational decision-making, which in turn delivers more efficient mining and certainty for key stakeholders.”

Mr. Mathews concluded by saying, “One of the most frequently asked questions in mining today is why actual costs are different to the original budget or the recent reforecast. XERAS for Enterprise gives you the power to answer this question quickly and accurately right from your desktop.”

“If you want to consolidate all your financial costing models at the push of a button, reforecast rapidly and have full financial drill-down to your operational costing models, XERAS for Enterprise is the perfect solution for you.”

Hi Team,

I have been searching for HANA optimizations released for Mining Industry as part of SAP Business Suite on HANA that has been released earlier in Jan 2013. As part of the communication from SAP, it has released optimizations in "Commodity Transport Management ", Version for HANA as part of Mining Industry in SP2. Same is mentioned in Note 0001768031. However, the release notes for SP2 does not include any transactions / reports in this area. Note 1761546 that includes all the optimizations released as part of ERP , version for HANA, in Sp0 to Sp2 also does not include the transactions / reports commonly used in Mining industry. Can anyone help me how to find the Optimized transactions for HANA in SAP Mining space ?

I created three materials in a FFF class because of inter changeability. All the materials have the same unit of measure. When recording order unit in one of them, the system is displaying '' Error message because of the difference of order unit  in one material of FF class '' .This is not normal   because i do not need to have the same order unit on all the materials of FFF Class.

Merge production orders in background "MILL_OC_ORDER_MERGE"

Hello

I need to merge several production orders in background and the only bapi that i have found is the "MILL_OC_ORDER_MERGE" fm.

It has a parameter for background processing but still it brings the warning/error/info messages in foreground and also asks for user input in some cases.

I need a function module for background processing, that gives me the error/warnings as a log and there should be no user interaction required.

can anybody help?

Thank you

Sebastian

McKinsey Publication: Are you ready for the resource revolution?

$

McKinsey recently published in one of their newsletters a study on resource revolution. Working for industries that are very resource intense - or are producing resources, I thought that this was very mind opening thought.

You can find the study/article here:

http://www.mckinsey.com/insights/sustainability/are_you_ready_for_the_resource_revolution?cid=other-eml-nsl-mip-mck-oth-1404

One of the first thing that struck me - (and by the way, it is reality in my household as well) - a car is _not_ used for 95 % of its lifetime. What a waste of resources!

And comparable examples can be found in the industry many times.

McKinsey lists a couple of strategies how to handle this topic - and I was really wondering, how SAPs solutions can be used to help companies in making this stategies real.

The first strategy proposed by McKinsey is 'Substitution'. There are examples of how one material is replacing another material (e.g. eggs are replaced by a vegetable product called 'beyond egg'). Through SAPs collaboration solutions, I guess companies can really find it more easy to work together with engineers, researchers, laboratories, and so on when working on such a 'new material'. And also I am convinced, that the analytical capabilities make it possible to detect the areas, where a substitution of a specific material would make much sense.

What are the examples that you could think of?

I am curious about your ideas and thoughts that are triggered by this publication...

EHP 6 for SAP ERP 6.0: Top 10 Functions

$
0
0

I found across one article in SAP info which discussed top 10 functions in Enhancement Package 6. Some of them i found may be relevant to Mill products and Mining so I have provided this below:

  • Enterprise Asset Management Part 5

Customers who have SAP ERP 6.0 and make use of the plant maintenance component can look forward to three efficiency improvements after implementing Enterprise Asset Management Part 5. For one, it gives users the ability to add purchase requisition fields directly to the operation overview and component overview of a given order. This saves hard-working employees from having to make that extra click to view the purchase requisition fields in detail processing. Another time-saver: Maintenance plans can now be rescheduled automatically when the maintenance strategy has been changed. And lastly, users can change the content of different fields for multiple order operations at the same time.

  • Basic Order Integration for SAP ERP and SAP Transportation Management

In a competitive market, efficiently moving goods along the supply chain is crucial. To do so, companies will want to activate this new business function, which integrates their SAP ERP system with SAP Transportation Management (TM). The integration transfers orders from SAP ERP to SAP TM at an early stage in the order management process, so users can better perform better transportation planning for sales orders, returns orders, purchase orders, and stock transport orders. It also transfers information about freight orders and freight units from SAP TM to SAP ERP, so users can optimize their inbound and outbound deliveries.

  • Integration of Production Processes with an MES

Businesses in the manufacturing industry can increase efficiency in their production processes by integrating SAP ERP and manufacturing execution systems (MES) more closely. The initial integration was delivered via a previous enhancement and made it possible for users to define which production orders created in SAP ERP should be synchronized in the MES. Users could also monitor the status of orders and get confirmation of the quantities manufactured. Now, thanks to a second enhancement, the integration has been further improved with several new features. Users can now use a data replication framework to transfer master data and transaction data from SAP ERP to an MES, allowing them to specify which data they want to replicate. Improved production order integration ensures that a changed order is automatically send to the MES again. And there is now integration support for planned orders too.

Hope this might be helpful.

How 3D Printing enabled with SAP technology can help Mill Product Industries

$

Hello friends,

In Mill Products industries their products is defined by the characteristics which are mostly provided by the customers. Now think what happens if a company can allow its customer to design its own products using 3D visualization and provide an order based on their own design? I think this can be possible with 3D printing technology or additive manufacturing technology which is emerging technology in manufacturing arena.

Makie's lab Case study (source SAP (Wired UK))

3d model.png

Makie's Lab is a small startup which offers "Makie" a doll created through using 3D printing technology. It offers its cutomers to customise facial features like hair, skin colour and many other factors through its website makie.me and dedicated iPad app.

What happens if Mill products company can able to provide its customer to design their own products using 3D interface and adjust thier product characteristics according to their requirements. This might be possible by using 3D visualisation in combination with variant configuration the data collected by this application goes directly in 3d printer which ultimately produce the product with exact precision that customer wants.

http://www.squidds.de/uploads/pics/Grafik_3_SAP_Visual_Enterprise_392x256px_Squid_Version191211_01.jpg

Although I have not much knowledge of this industries but have tried to bring this idea on how this emerging technology can be used more effectively with SAP.

Hope you will find it helpful!
